The story behind the sneaker
A sneaker is one of the most complicated objects in a wardrobe. It combines textile, foam, rubber and adhesive, usually assembled so tightly that nothing can ever be separated again. That construction is exactly why most sneakers cannot be recycled at the end of their life.
We started from the opposite direction: choose materials that can be accounted for, then design a shoe around them. Upcycled marine litter fabric for the upper. Natural cork for structure and insulation. Organic cotton lining. Recycled rubber for the outsole. Every component has a known origin and a plausible second life.
Why Portugal
Portuguese footwear workshops kept their craft when much of Europe moved production elsewhere. The result is a concentration of skill — pattern makers, cutters, stitchers, sole specialists — within a few dozen kilometres of each other in the north of the country.
Making shoes here means short supply chains, factories we can visit in an afternoon, and a workforce with decades of experience per bench. It also means European labour standards are not a claim on a website but the law our partners work under.
Comfort is part of sustainability
A shoe you do not want to wear is waste, no matter what it is made of. Our sneakers use anatomic insoles that support the arch and spread pressure across the whole foot, so they can be worn from morning to evening without the break-in period luxury shoes are famous for.
- Upper: upcycled marine fabric and natural cork — light, breathable and durable.
- Lining: organic cotton, soft against the skin and free of synthetic coatings.
- Sole: recycled rubber, flexible enough for city walking and dense enough to last.
- Insole: anatomic and removable, so it can be replaced rather than discarded with the shoe.
Design that does not shout
Sustainable does not have to look rustic. Our sneakers are built on a clean, low-profile silhouette in a restrained palette, with the colour reserved for details. They read as luxury because of proportion and finishing, not because of a logo.
That restraint is practical too: a shoe that is not tied to one season stays in rotation for years, which is the simplest environmental saving a footwear brand can offer.
