Fabric Upcycled from Marine Plastic

As you are walking on the Planet, you are making a huge difference in fashion industry and in the environment. We use fabric made from plastic waste in our shoes. It is a soft, lighweight and high quality fabric transformed from marine litter using high tech and allows us to have the best relation between marine plastic and fashion. The fabric is certified by SEAQUAL INITIATIVE and has the following features:

  • Sustainability
  • Comfort
  • Breathability
  • Lightweightness

SEAQUAL INITIATIVE works with NGOs, fishermen, authorities and local communities to help clean our oceans. Marine litter from our beaches, ocean floor and surface, rivers and estuaries, is collected by clean-up programs. It is then sorted into different material types and the plastic portion is cleaned and transformed into fabric. Environmentally conscious brands and manufacturers then transform this new, fully-traceable raw material into inspiring sustainable products for every aspect of our lives. Consumer purchasing power is one of the most powerful tools for change. In choosing products containing fabrics made out of ocean waste, you are helping to clean our oceans. TOGETHER FOR A CLEAN OCEAN.

Cork

Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree (Sobreiro in Portuguese), which is harvested by specialized craftsmen, between June and September, mainly in the south of Portugal from “florestas de sobro” (cork oak forests). These forests belong to the richest ecosystems in the World, because they protect animal and plant biodiversity, creating a natural balance in these  and surrounding areas. The extraction of the bark happens every 9-13 years and does not harm the tree, but allows it to live longer instead. After the harvesting the bark will go through a lengthy process involving various phases and long hours in the hands of craftsmen to get the texture of fabric and resistance of leather. The process has been passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years and kept a secret within families.

The cork leather that we use is 100% adapted to the fashion world, making it one of the most sustainable materials in this industry. It is:

• Sustainable

100% Portuguese;

• First quality harvesting;

• Impermeable to liquids and gases;

• Wear resistant, soft and flexible;

• Lightweight

• Antiallergic

• Machine washable at and can be ironed at low temperatures

What else makes our cork so special? Our cork is:

• 100% renewable;

100% natural;
